After McCartney, Paul McCartney's
debut album as a solo artist after the breakup of The Beatles in 1970,
Ram came in 1971 and was credited to Paul & Linda McCartney. The
album featured songs like "Too Many People" and "Eat At Home". Later
that year however, Wings was formed. When Linda was giving birth to
Stella, mother and child could've died. Praying, the image of wings
came to Paul's mind. Wings was Paul's only involvement with a band
since The Beatles and was his and Linda's band, and their 1971 debut
was recorded in the timespan of around two weeks, taking inspiration
from Bob Dylan (The Beatles had taken inspiration from Bob Dylan
before, one example is "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away" from the
Help! album).
While not well-recieved at the time, Wild Life and
only went to #11 in the UK and #10 in the US, going gold. Wild Life
included a song to John Lennon called "Dear Friend" after "Too Many
People" and the two beetles on the back of Ram earlier in the year.
Other noteworthy songs include "Wild Life", "Tomorrow" and "Some People
Never Know".
